Social media has a key role in the 2012 Presidential election. The candidates are using social media websites including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to increase engagement, encourage supporters to volunteer and target specific voter demographics. Facebook’s geo-location capabilities and SMS allow the Romney campaign to customize messaging based on a Michigan voter’s city, county and region.
